SUMMARY:Generations: A Father / Daughter Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:OPEN GALLERY HOURS\nSaturday | March 23RD from 12PM to 3PM\nThursday | March 28TH  from 6PM to 8PM\nSaturday | April 6TH form 12PM to 3PM\nSunday | April 14TH | Closing Bruch will be held from 11AM to 1PM for a final viewing of the exhibit.\nFeaturing the paintings\, sculptures and relief art of John Giannotti and the nature photography of Keara Giannotti \nJohn Giannotti\, sculptor of Haddy\, is professor emeritus at Rutgers University\, where he served as Fine Arts Chair in Camden and Director of Junior Year Abroad in Italy. His paintings and sculptures are in numerous public and private collections worldwide\, including his bronze monuments of Madame Curie and Walt Whitman at Soka University in Japan. Additional castings of Walt Whitman are installed in the cities of the poet’s birth and death\, Huntington\, NY and Camden\, NJ. In addition to Haddy\, John has donated his services to create several sculptures and relief paintings for the Borough of Haddonfield\, including The Little Artist sculpture at Tatem\, the Rosie Hymerling mural at Tatem\, and the Last Buttonwood painting at the library. He has served as a consultant and Board member at the Markeim and at HOST\, the Haddonfield Outdoor Sculpture Trust. Giannotti is a naturalist and the founder/director of Camp Creek Run\, a nonprofit 50-acre camp & nature preserve that is dedicated to connecting children with the natural world. As an environmental educator\, she embraces nature study as both a science and an art form. Her goal with nature photography is not only to capture the beauty of the subject\, but to create composed\, descriptive pictures that document intimate\, macro details of plants\, animals\, and fungi to be used as reference to deepen her understanding\, and share it with others. Keara finds joy in the process of discovery and documenting the details and diversity of life\, and considers every moment outdoors an opportunity to observe and learn. SUMMARY:Down the Shore - Landscape Photography
DESCRIPTION:Transport yourself to the Shore in mid-Winter. Join us from February 4th to the 28th as we celebrate the work of John Vlahakis. The event will kick off with an opening reception on Sunday\, February 4th\, from 1 to 4 PM. Open to the public. \nJohn\, a Society of Media Photographers member\, has pieces in museums and private collections worldwide.  You can also see his work in the public art installation next time you fly out of Terminal A in Newark. \nJohn was born in Chicago\, USA\, to Greek immigrant parents.  He studied political science and communications and received a BS and an MBA from Northwestern University. John spent the next few decades combining a passion for preserving the planet with his business knowledge to create a highly successful environmental home cleaning product line and international business.  Throughout his career\, he took time to travel and pursue his other passion\, photography. \nAlong the way\, he fell in love with the Jersey Shore.  Since 2020\, he has been working on two projects\, “Enduring City” landscapes of Athens\, Greece\, and “The Jersey Shore.” When he is not traveling\, John and his camera can be found at the Jersey Shore (long-time resident of Harvey Cedars\, NJ)\, Athens\, and Chicago. \n

SUMMARY:Maria Sammartino: A One Woman Show
DESCRIPTION:Markeim Arts Center is proud to present Maria Sammartino: A One Woman Show\, a showcase of the abstract-landscape works of artist Maria Sammartino. The show will be on display from September 10-October 15. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Saturday\, September 10 from 4:00-6:00 pm. Light refreshments will be provided. \n\nAdmission:\n$5 | Free for students with a valid ID (students may email info@markeimartscenter.org for registration) \nAbout the Artist \nMaria Sammartino has been painting and exhibiting her work for many years. Born in Philadelphia with a strong family background of artists\, Maria spent many years creating art\, but didn’t take herself seriously until having to give up her career in ophthalmology after being diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis). Unable to continue working\, she found herself immersed in painting\, writing\, and editing. Maria has been a featured artist in local South Jersey and Philadelphia juried shows and exhibitions including the Perkins Center for the Arts and the Medford Art Center. Past shows include monthly exhibits at both The Cherry Hill and Burlington County library galleries\, where she has a permanent exhibition. Maria is a member of The Plastic Club in Philadelphia\, and has won an award for her painting titled “Breakthrough. \nMaria presents the viewer with a challenge in self-described “imagined landscapes” that often defy rules of perspective and dimension. Her body of work is full of many different styles\, and that is part of what makes them so original. Each painting is different from the next\, and not easily described as “abstract” or “landscape” but both at the same time. She mixes her vibrant palette in what seems to be endless layers and texture\, challenging the viewer to label or describe them easily.
