Central Elementary First Grade Students *ONLY*

Join certified art teacher and working artists Zap Brandinelli and Samantha Goodwin in a special small group afterschool art pod experience this fall at Markeim, designed just for your group. Up to eight 1^st graders will be picked up by Zap & Samantha at Central’s dismissal (to be arranged by parents with classroom teachers/Ms. Simkus with a designated meeting point at dismissal), then walked in a walking bus, the kids and teachers will head to MAC.

From 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., the kids will explore sketch, cartooning, paint, mixed media upcycling art, beading and other artistic expressions at the center together in a calm environment attended by the teaching artists, with breaks for movement and outdoor time. This program provides a focused art curriculum, lots of teacher hands on guidance and attention and a small group oriented toward individualized artistic development.

Please pack a hearty afterschool snack for this experience.

About our teachers:

Zack “Zap” Brandinelli, or as his students call him “Mr. Z”, works as an elementary and middle school art teacher currently teaching in Maple Shade New Jersey. Serving as an apprentice to a comic book artist in high school and graduating with a degree in illustration from Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Zap has a keen interest in sequential storytelling and cartooning that covers a wide range of mediums but specializes in drawing and digital illustration, with an interest in small scale sculpture work. While he loves teaching, one of Zap’s life goals is to self-publish a book of his own featuring his creator-owned characters but until then he is happy to be teaching others and taking commissions to improve his skills.

About Ms. Samantha: Samantha has a background in painting and floral design and has taught in and out of the classroom for eight years. She loves mixing art and science and customizing curriculum for the kids in the program. Samantha has been lead Arts & Crafts Director at Camp No Worries in Medford for several years, and in 2026, assumed Co Lead of the Markeim Arts Center summer camp program!
