Discover the luminous, expressive beauty of watercolor in this four-week hands-on course designed for beginners and seasoned creatives alike. Guided by artist and instructor Sharon Ann Smith, students will explore the fine art foundations of watercolor through focused weekly projects and thoughtful instruction.
Over the course of four 90-minute sessions, you’ll learn to paint with confidence as we dive into:
-
Brush techniques for expressive marks, washes, and detail
-
Color theory and harmonious palette building
-
Layering, glazing, and blending for depth and luminosity
-
Watercolor techniques such as wet-on-wet, dry brush, gradients, lifting, and more
Each week features a new 9×11 project, allowing you to practice and master different skills while building a beautiful collection of finished works. The structure is supportive, encouraging, and designed to meet students exactly where they are in their artistic journey. All materials are provided, so simply bring your curiosity and creativity—everything you need will be ready for you at the studio.
Join us at Markeim Arts Center and experience the joy, fluidity, and fine art craftsmanship of watercolor. Leave each class with new techniques, renewed confidence, and artwork you’ll be proud to share.
